Back in 2001, after many years in the auto repair field, I found myself in a position to open my own shop in Portland Oregon. My career began as a technician at a Chevron station in downtown Portland, learning anything and everything I could and earning the role of Assistant Manager. I then worked for several Goodyear Tire stores in the Portland/Milwaukie area, and spent 14 years at Coliseum Tire And Service in NE Portland before joining the crew at Uptown Chevron at 23rd and West Burnside as Assistant Service Manager, then Service Manager.
My first act as owner of Expert Auto Repair was to hire Steven Davis, a great guy with no technical experience in the auto industry — perfect for me to groom as my right-hand man. I discovered he had a lot of people skills and could make me laugh, tremendous assets during the long work weeks as we got ready to open and the twelve years that followed. We’ve had a lot of fun in the 11 years we’ve spent serving and educating the motoring public.
I am married to my lovely wife of 30+ years, my son Abe works with us on Saturdays to help with fleet service, and my daughter Annie serves as our in-house IT consultant when she’s not busy at Renaissance Systems. I have two wonderful grandchildren whom I adore. Working six days a week does not allow for many hobbies but we do enjoy getting out on our Candy Apple Red Honda Goldwing whenever we can.
I have been at Expert Auto Repair since day one, January 1st, 2001. Mike and I have worked together since 1995 and show no signs of breaking up any time soon. My job at Expert Auto is to greet people with a happy face, facilitate the purchase of parts, make estimates, contact customers regarding the status of their repairs, and keep a general morale of fun, humor, and friendliness. I like to think I do my job well on most days.
Outside of work, I have played guitar for 23 years, was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, have a deep interest in science and American history, and love everything that Chris Elliott has ever done. I have lived in Portland since 1995 and I am proud to call this city my home.
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Mike as a colleague for over 20 years, and it was a happy day when he hired me at Expert Auto Repair and welcomed me to the family six years ago. I have enjoyed the friendly, upbeat, and professional work environment he has created, the exceptional clientele, and the best people I have ever worked with.
I’m an ASE Master Technician and I’ve been in the auto repair field for 33 years. I am “the old guy” here but still enjoy continuing my education as the industry advances technologically each year.
Thank you for browsing our website. I hope we can meet you and your car soon.
Mike Burch has been my boss for 17 years and we have always been good friends besides being co-workers. I started rebuilding carburetors when I was 18 years old in El Monte, California, and currently specialize in repair and rebuilding them as they have become more rare in the advent of fuel injection in the 1980s. I first worked with Mike at Uptown Chevron in Portland, which is also where I met Steve and Bruce. Since then I have been getting more experience and opportunity to learn more with Mike through automotive classes and technical training provided by Expert Auto Repair.
I have been a United States citizen since 1996 and make frequent trips to my home state of Michoacan, Mexico. I am happy to be able to make a living working on cars along with my friends, and to have a job that gives me the chance to take road trips to my home town and spend time with my family and carry my tool box with me when I go on these trips. I enjoy what I do and hope to be able to do this for a long time while learning more along the way.
I have known the crew here at Expert Auto Repair for over 15 years, and Mike Burch even longer than that, so I think that helps give this shop its friendly/family type of atmosphere. I love greeting customers by name when they visit our shop. I get great satisfaction when I am able to bring a car back to life after it gets towed in with troubles. I enjoy the challenges of working on newer cars and figuring out the new federal safety systems, tire pressure monitors, oil life systems, etc…as we grow more and more into this new car era, I hope to excel and grow with it.
I’m 34 years young, and during my free time, I enjoy barbequing, disc golf, spending time with my family, camping with friends, and the Portland Trailblazers, win or lose. (There is always next year!) I hope to see you soon!
